In November of 2023, we sent Paweł a sketch of what Sylwia and I envisioned the condo would look like.
Then in March of 2024, this is what Paweł designed for us.
After a lot of back and forth, this is what the final project looked like on paper. Paweł made a few great suggestions that ended up in the final design. One of them was to put a full four-to-six person dining room table in the living room instead of the small kitchen table that we made in our original sketch. To make all this happen though, the Murphy bed idea would have to be scrapped and now a sofa sleeper would have to replace the couch. Then, the entire left side kitchen wall would have to be moved a few inches into the kids' bedroom to allow enough room for the kitchen cabinets to clear the window. The kitchen window would also have to be replaced with a higher frame one that would clear the countertop. This would provide a comfortable seating area near the window with a wraparound counterspace. The other change was with the washer and dryer. The bathroom was simply too small to fit a toilet and a stackable washer and dryer, leaving us with only one option, to move it to a built-in cabinet at the entry to the kitchen. We also tried to move the toilet into the main bathroom and to make the toilet room into a coat closet upon entry into the condo but unfortunately, there was no way to tap into the sewer pipe from the main bathroom and we were forced to leave it as is. In the end, it all worked out for the best as we appreciate having those two spaces separated and the washer and dryer are perfectly fine in the kitchen.
From an idea to a finished project. This is what the condo looks like now. All doors including the entry door were custom made by Sylwia's uncle Krzysiek, who is an excellent woodworker. He also custom made the windowsills, kids' bunk beds, a shoe rack, a living room coffee table and a mini table to serve as an extension to our computer desk.
Sylwia's aunt, Gosia gifted us hand made table and shelf "serwetki".
The renovation turned out better than we expected and now we have a home base in Poland with access to all of Europe to explore in the summers. Let the adventures continue.
