Before my grandpa (on my father’s side) passed away a few years ago he signed over a piece of land to Darek. The property is a ten-minute drive from Marzena’s but the last mile of road to get there is unpaved and due to recent rains and muggy weather, the dirt road turned into a muddy mess. It’s been foggy and wet since we got here. The sun peaked out for the first time in weeks as we approached the land and it seemed like grandpa was welcoming us.

The 2.85 hectare, a roughly seven-acre lot consists of a small forest, some open brush field with a small concrete building in front with missing door and windows. It has been in my family since I can remember. I recall going there with Darek and my grandpa to cut brush, make bon fires, roast potatoes, climb trees and play in the hay bales adjacent to the property. The building must have been added as I don't recall one being there.

Nasus needed a bit more comfort in both of his dog houses, so we went to work on one of them to make it cozier for him. We lined the bottom with a rug that we stapled to the floor and then added a soft rug on top which we also stapled and nailed on top of that. In the other dog house we’ll add a nice comfy dog bed on top of the rug. That should keep him comfortable for the rest of the winter.

Marzena has a couple of buildings on her property that she uses for short term rentals. It’s typically for crews who work on random projects here in Grajewo or nearby towns. There are a total of four buildings on about two and a half acres here and they include her personal house in front, a small house between two ponds in the back and two big buildings in the middle. Most of the structures were built between fifteen and twenty years ago and they are starting to show their age from the constant rotation of tenants. Upkeep and maintenance are ongoing and quite costly. Artur was painting the bedrooms in one of the buildings and I helped him remove a few kitchen cabinets downstairs to address a water leak in the ceiling above them. The leak was coming from an old bathroom shower stall directly above the cabinets. After removing the cabinets, we quickly found where the leak was coming from. The shower stall was old and not sealed to the walls properly so we removed it then cleaned and prepped the area. A plumber will install a new one. Now it’s time to close and patch the kitchen ceiling and re-install the cabinets. That's for another day.

With not much else to do, we took a walk to the nearby park and then on the way back stopped at Darek’s house for a snack and hot tea to warm up. The weather has been less than desirable since our arrival.

On Wiktorowo street there are these two mini ponies that seem hang out during the day. I assume they belong to the house across the street. They are usually gone when the sun goes down. Fun stop for the kids on our way to Darek's.
