The last couple of weeks have been a gentle winding down—visiting family, packing, sharing hugs and goodbyes, enjoying one more meal at our favorite restaurant, one more ice cream at Pingwinek and walking through Park Strzelecki for the last time this season. We also made a quiet visit to the cemetery to offer prayers and say farewell. It's never easy to leave, but our hearts are full. As we prepare to return to the States for the summer, we carry so many beautiful memories with us. A few summer adventures are loosely planned, and before we fly out of Warsaw to Chicago, we’ll spend a few final days in Grajewo—savoring every moment.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner and dessert at Ciocia Basia and Wujek Krzysiek’s, followed by heartfelt goodbyes.

Our next stop was Wujek Zbyszek and Ciocia Basia’s house—once the home of Sylwia’s grandparents. Walking the grounds stirred up memories, though much has changed since her childhood. The place still holds its charm, especially when everything’s in bloom, but it’s clear that keeping it so beautiful takes a great deal of love and hard work.

Wujek Zbyszek and his son-in-law, Mateusz, whipped up a seriously cool little smoker—yes, they built it themselves! As they got ready to smoke a fresh batch of meats, they shared some already-prepared cuts with us to take home. The flavors were rich, smoky, and delicious.

One last family hangout with Ciocia Gosia and Wujek Andrzej—complete with tasty food, backyard games, and a few bittersweet goodbyes. Their hospitality (and cooking!) never disappoints.

We had a quick downpour with pea-sized hail, but it didn’t last long.
